Beatriz Milhazes is one of the most important Brazilian artists, having participated at Venice Biennale (2003), São Paulo Biennial (1998, 2004) and had her own exhibition at the Fondation Cartier in 2009.

Milhazes is predominantly concerned with the principle of collage, drawing from her combined knowledge of both Latin American and European traditions. She has been called "Brazil's most successful contemporary painter" and is known for her large-scale works and vibrant colours.
